Playing HM3 again today, and I noticed the mention of storylines in the FAQ. Maybe in the next version storylines could play a role. You could contact other studios, just have some interactions. I am sure there are a lot of ideas for this idea.
Also, maybe a spinoff game. Something like the show Entourage where you play an agent trying to attract talent, get them jobs, and all the fun stuff with that.

Carey have you thought about using Kickstarter to raise money for something like a HM4 (if you're interested that is)?
Seems like it's very popular these days and I'm sure you could reach old HM players that don't remember the game. All you need to do is post on places like Reddit, Digg and some gaming sites/blogs. I have little doubt that you could generate a lot of money for the development of a new HM (obviously based off of HM3).

Talent should have realistic salary requirements. If I want to hire a director and he says he wants to "bump up" his salary thats totally fine. But from 10 million / 0 points to 20 million / 5 - 10 points is totally out of control.
My answer would be: Whatever you are smoking, stop it! And leave. At lest the second part is an option in HM3. However you cannot bargain. If the talent says 20 million you have to pay 20 million. There should be more options. The talent should reduce their pay claim and you should have a kind of "blacklist". If a talent is too greedy I threaten him not to hire him for the next year or two ( and actually can't hire him if i put him on that list). Right now it is just annoying and I do not feel like a Hollywood Mogul but an ATM.
Production Deals:
There is another thing I would like to have changed. THe talent can offer that it will act but not direct or produce. When I make an offer the talent always has to produce. I can chance everything else (direct, write, etc.) why not this?
And the salary shouldn't change during a production deal. They already have a guarantee that I will greenlight every idea they offer, but I do not think I gave them a blanko contract. If it is a 3 year deal they should get the same payment for every project. Maybe they would like to bump their salary up, but why should I pay 10 points / movie when the talent signed for 3 points?
After the greenlight:
While I played during the last days I thought the game becomes repititive too fast. And I think it is because you are not involved enough in the movie making. From green lighting to the end of post production nothing happens. There should be events during production, like delays, accidents, arguments between talent, etc. Just a little more "action". Directors and producers already have the "on time" and "on budget" and actors the "takes direction", etc. ratings. I think it would be nice if this actually affects the shooting. Maybe it already does but you could it make more obvious.
The critics: Right now you get the star ratings. I think it would be a cool feature if you also had a text version (like 2-3 different versions for each star rating) in a movie magazine. So you won't just see a star rating for your sfx but can read that the special effects where groundbreaking or looked like a b-movie.

Sure, you could go in and change some marketing, the date, and the basics, but I like the idea you presented of events. Storylines could play a big role in this area too. Just a suggestion.

Agree on all that Pelu said, brilliant posts. More random events will help to make things fun.
Add-on: I also would like a custom difficulty, where one can adjust on things like he wanted. I have always want the box office to be * 1 for realism but the highest difficulty is really killing me so a custom difficulty will allow me to have 1x box office and yet the pressure is not too much.

A couple things I'd like to see in a 4th game are
1) The computer AI studios actually making sequels to their movies. There have been so many times where i've seen billion dollar movies and thinking that's be a good franchise but the computer AI never makes sequels. Would add alot of realism.
2)The attributres/ratings for the actors, actresses, etc would actually have an effect on the film's quality. Also something like that for writers in the game. Instead of just hiring a random writer, each one could have certain things their better at.
Just a few suggestions

While we are at it, I hope that the computer AI can do more films in the game. Sometime they are rich yet they don't produce enough. I set it to I-do-one-film-they-do-one-film yet I threw 14 projects into pre-production, only to find out they only throw 5.

Okay, okay. HM4 it is. Jesus.
But here's the deal. No AI ... multi-player only.
La la la ....
Now all you have to do is wait a year or two for me to finish it.
I have thought about kickstarter. Maybe I WILL go that route. You guys would have to help spread the word.
But would you???

I think it would be a good idea to try and promote the game on actual movie sites. Maybe offer free copies for movie sites to advertise and get the word out.
I am not sure about the multi-player route. If you depend on others to be on to play, that could be hard.

Okay, forget what I said about no AI and multi-player only. I was thinking about doing HM4 as a phone app, but realize that I have no interest in writing phone apps, and that HM4 is so information-intensive that there's no way to do it as a phone app ... well, that's not true, I actually worked it all out, but I don't want to write a phone app.
So I'm going to start a new thread: HM4 Wish List.
