Got another idea, script development on sequels before the original is released. And another, spin-off options. I love the spinoff idea, esp for movies with a cult following like Star Wars. Maybe also a way to set up thins like trilogies in advanced, like how matrix and lotr was filmed then broken into 3 separate releases. HMSdesigner: See below.
And unrelated maybe something to keep better track of stars lifetime earnings and achievements.
HMSdesigner: See above (somewhere). There will be an in-game "Website" system that tracks all that stuff. I think. I hope. Maybe. Probably.

I think there was an issue about locking down talent or something. HMSdesigner: Yes. I took it out. It was a cluster-fudge ... I implemented it LONG after the Talent stuff had been designed. So I jury-rigged it. Also, I never really liked it. At the time, it was rare. It's more common now, so maybe I would have to add it back into the game.

Ok so we can't get excited with what ifs and buts?.......It's christmas after all!! HMSdesigner: Hee hee Anyway i love the idea of another game, and you had me at the TV/Cable channel/Stream part, never have i seen a top quality TV Show simulatore game, always wanted one to bring back my fave shows eg FRIENDS lol I could also add the ability to convert them into movies also. Not sure how the tv ratings system would work but by any chance been able to add sports to it would make another extensive addition, i know the game is about actors but if the TV section was in depth it could be added. HMSdesigner: It's the TV Ratings system that stopped me the first time. It's a completely different system than the movie algorithms for determining success. The ball is in your court now designer...just please don't strike us out HMSdesigner: Sure. No pressure.

If you have ever played the wrestling management game TEW from Greydogsoftware I would like the game to feel more like that.
The Ability to play as either a studio production company, distributor or an independent producer.
HMSdesigner: Sorry. The idea has ALWAYS been that you run a Hollywood movie studio ... with a backlot and all the bells and whistles.
I would like the game to begin with actual studios and distribution companies each set up with their own franchises that they own and talents that they have deals with.
Think of having DC and Marvel Studios in the game each set up with there own comic book movies in production.
I would the game to feel more real.
think of having Quentin Tarentino having his deal with Miramax in the game and have him create write and direct stuff he would create like exploitation films and him cast the guys he always cast like Sam L Jackson and Tim Roth.
Adding problems in the game like economy collapse , Piracy and talent issues.
HMSdesigner: I am bringing back Production Problems. I'll look at other "problems" as well. Thanks.
Adding streaming services and straight to TV releases.
HMSdesigner: Straight-to-video ... already in current version.
The ability to sign music artist to make music for the soundtrack.
HMSdesigner: With the music business the way it is now, I don't want to get near it ...

I love the idea of writing a script before you release the first movie. I also wouldn't mind being able to make a spin off movie or television show for minor characters.
HMSdesigner: If a TV Production system is put in place, as I am planning, then this is in for sure. Also ... when I say "planning" what I mean is I am thinking about all these things. I'm NOT actually doing any coding. I'm just THINKING about this ...

With the addition of an unlimited talent database, there's two key ideas I'd love to see implemented in a hypothetical HMS2.
Instead of having separate databases for the various talent, how about everyone included in one large database that allows for talent to pursue multiple jobs with their own skills for each job. That way you could have a Kevin Smith that writes and directs his own movies, as well as acting in them. Or it could allow a George Clooney to produce a film for a friend, without having to act in it.
HMSdesigner: This is an interesting idea. How does the community feel about this ... especially the folks who actually create the databases that EVERYONE ELSE USES? MovieMan? Smirk? How do you feel about this?
Also, I'd love to be able to set future talent to debut at specific months and years. That way you could start your studio in the 1970s, during the rise of New Hollywood and the birth of the blockbuster, and run it through the modern age with fresh talent debuting when they normally debut.
HMSdesigner: Umm ... I don't know about this. This requires too many different systems for revenue success. Before Jaws was released summer was a "dead zone" for studios. Also, before Jaws, movies were released region by region. I remember reading an interview with Warren Beatty ... a movie he was in was released in March or April, and it was Christmas and he was still on the road promoting it in Pittsburgh or somewhere where it had JUST opened. It's a nightmare of systems.

Or it could allow a George Clooney to produce a film for a friend, without having to act in it. In a sort of sneaky, probably unintended way, you can already do this in the game. Just hire an actor or director, click yes on "will produce" and then immediately fire them from the other job. They'll stay on as producer with no hard feelings and (unless they have a Pay or Play deal) no financial penalty. I've gotten plenty of 5 star movies made that way. I especially like doing it with remakes of real life films. If the director of the original is in the database, I'll usually have them produce and hire somebody different to direct. But yeah, having a more official version of that option is a good suggestion. HMSdesigner: Yes. I don't want you to have to use work-arounds to do what you want. Since "friendship" among the Talent will be an attribute in any new version of the game, this will be easier to implement. Also, knowing I have to add these types of things will allow for the DESIGN of the talent system to handle it.

Okay ... here is something for all of you to think about ... and I mean it. Think about this.
I took a boat-load of heat from reviewers over the years because the game was NOT very graphical. I could NEVER figure out HOW to make it graphical because so much information has to be communicated from me to you. I remember getting a "score" of 55 or 59 or something out of 100. The review said the game was FUN, and DEEP but looked bad. The very next review was a game the reviewer said was stupid, not fun, but looked great graphically, so it was given a score of 95. This was for the original DOS version in 1995 (LOL TWENTY-ONE YEARS AGO oh my God)
So when I brought it to Windows(R) I tried to have images in the background, and write all the text out with shadows, etc.
And that takes time. And work. And planning. A boat-load of planning.
So ... the game development could be shortened considerably if I went with more traditional Windows(R)-style menus. Drop down lists, etc.
So here's what I want you to think about: How would you feel if the game looked more like a business app than a computer game but was developed faster?
The thing is ... if I did it with more traditional Windows(R)-type controls ... I could really go crazy and add EVERYTHING to the game that I had originally planned all those years ago ...
Hollywood Movie Studio TV Production Studio TV Networks and Cable Channels Music Company Publishing Company Theme Parks Animation Studios Special Effect Houses Video Game Production
All in one game. Everything, all the data, would be in text files you could edit ... and you could just add stuff you wanted. For example, you could easily add new movie genres, or new shoot locations, or create your own Production Problems ... I've always wanted to just go crazy with HM. This way I could. And so could you. Eventually.
Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR you HMS-playing movie-makers. I hope 2017 brings you happiness. And, of course ... good luck at the box office!

One suggestion I've been thinking of but keep forgetting to post, but right now it's really easy to give minimal contracts to talent. Maybe that could be changed instead to a threshold of a salary of like $2M+ (in conjunction with talent taking a pay cut for a passion project or working with a certain director).
